Description

“We are in the midst of a societal and public health crisis. We are losing our most vulnerable kids, largely due to perspectives that are outdated and counterproductive, and disciplinary practices that are punitive and exclusionary.

With each time-out, detention, suspension, expulsion, paddling, restraint, seclusion, and arrest at school, there are children who aren’t getting the help they need and are being pushed away from caregivers who could instead be helping them.

The cost to all of us is profound. Overwhelmed, discouraged educators. Frustrated, desperate parents. Expensive placements. Disenfranchised, marginalized, alienated kids. A pipeline to prison. It doesn’t have to be this way.” (Livesinthebalance.org)

If you know it doesn’t have to be this way and you want to hear about how things can be done differently, this On Demand resource is for you.

So, who is Dr Ross Greene?
Clinical psychologist Dr Ross Greene is the founding director of Lives in the Balance; author of The New York Times best-seller The Explosive ChildLost at SchoolLost & Found and Raising Human Beings; and, crucially, creator of the CPS model.

… and what is the CPS model?
The CPS model is evidence based and trauma informed, and directly addresses the difficulties of children with social, emotional and behavioural challenges. It is transforming thinking and practices across the world and has been associated with dramatic reductions in adult-child conflict, concerning behaviours, disciplinary referrals, detentions, restraints, suspensions and isolation. The model represents a significant departure from 'discipline-as-usual'. It is now transforming lives and practices in Warwickshire.

How is the CPS model working in Warwickshire?
In the replay you will hear John Coleman and Louise Hopkins discuss how the CPS model came to be piloted in 34 Warwickshire schools in 2022 and is transforming thinking and practices across the county more widely, with tangible benefits already been felt by the children and practitioners involved. You will also hear how Warwickshire rolled out the model, the emerging understanding of the impact it is having and plans for implementation across children’s services more widely.

If you already feel what’s at stake every time an opportunity is missed to positively respond to - and engage with - a child, and you're passionate about the need for change, this webinar is for you.

Expect to be charged with confidence that you can make a difference, motivated to take the learning into your own practice and organisation, and to gain an understanding of how it has been done in Warwickshire.

These resources will help you:

  • Gain an understanding of why Warwickshire committed to piloting the CPS model in Warwickshire schools
  • Gain an understanding of how the pilot was rolled out and what resource and investment was needed
  • Reflect on what would be needed to pilot the CPS model in your own service
  • Gain an understanding of what’s involved in adopting the model
  • Gain an understanding of what impact the model is having in Warwickshire and why work is underway to roll out the model across children’s services more widely
  • Develop renewed confidence in your ability to make a difference
